Sir Gregory Von Gotham Hits “Rock Bottom” In New Single

Over the past 2-3 years, Sir Gregory Von Gotham, a rapper/producer from NYC has quietly been releasing some of the darkest, grimiest, and best music in hip hop. Each one of his tracks is so engaging sonically and lyrically, you hardly notice just how technically skilled he is unless you’re really listening for it. And technically skilled he is indeed, that just doesn’t appear to be his focus.

On August 14th, he released “Rock Bottom,” a bombastic, uber grimy ode to sex and drugs. Unlike most music with similar content, the lyrics here are refreshingly self aware and almost every single bar hits like a punch to the gut. He opens the track by joking that he “went to a therapist once” but “the next day he killed himself,” before unleashing a tirade of shockingly dark, yet hilarious bars that masterfully blend braggadocio with self deprecation and brutal honesty.

The record features two female rappers: the mysterious Buddha Beanz in her debut appearance and GoodVibes Indii, who has been releasing tracks produced and engineered by Sir Gregory for the past several years. Both artists fit on the record seamlessly, with Buddha Beanz matching Sir Gregory’s pitch black sense of humor with ease and GoodVibes Indii nearly stealing the scene with her powerful voice and old school flow.

But this is definitely Sir Gregory’s show, as he rattles off bar after bar that range from laugh out loud funny to jaw droppingly dark. The beat, also produced by Sir Gregory, is one of the grimiest things I’ve heard since “Dr. Bird’s” by Griselda, with a sludgy bassline that sounds like an anaconda creeping through the jungle and hard hitting drums that would make The Alchemist proud. The tongue-in-cheek hook about booty shaking and dropping it low compliments the hard hitting verses surprisingly well, and I can’t seem to get it out of my head.

Overall, this is one hell of a banger, one of the best songs of the year and I’m very much looking forward to what Sir Gregory has in store for us next.
