Liberian President Joseph Boakai Meets Fulton County Officials at NBL’s 124th National Black Business Conference

President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, recently visited Atlanta to deliver a keynote address at The National Business League’s (NBL) 124th National Black Business Conference during the Pan-African Black Business Luncheon. The event brought together influential voices in Black business and leadership, co-hosted by The National Alliance for Black Business in collaboration with the National Black Chamber of Commerce and the World Conference of Mayors. This conference united hundreds of Black-led organizations, focused on economic development, policy advocacy, and entrepreneurship within the global Black community.

During his visit, an impromptu meeting was arranged with Fulton County officials, facilitated by filmmaker Aaron Faulkner of Five Points Media. Faulkner, holding dual citizenship in Liberia and the U.S., is producing a documentary titled “Where There’s A Will: Unearthing Liberian Descendants’ Inheritance in Georgia Soil,” which explores the story of Frances Gideon, a Fulton County slave owner who freed 30 slaves in 1853 and sent them to Liberia.

In the meeting, Fulton County’s Chief Probate Judge Kenya Johnson and Chairman Robb Pitts presented President Boakai with a framed copy of Frances Gideon’s will, symbolizing the historical ties between Fulton County and Liberia. The President was accompanied by key cabinet members, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Mamaka Bility.

Her Royal Majesty Shanta Lana Hereford, COO of The HYPE Magazine and Queen of the Nation of Cherut, documented the encounter, highlighting the role of media in preserving these important narratives.

In his keynote speech, delivered to over 3,000 attendees, President Boakai emphasized the importance of economic cooperation and the shared heritage between Liberia and the United States, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening ties with the global African diaspora.
