We got some answers about this single AND their upcoming project slated for release next year.

Can you tell us about the time you have been a musical artist from the beginning?

“My passion for music ignited early on, thanks to my father, who introduced me to the magic of the  Jackson 5. He took my brothers and me to several of their concerts, and the energy and talent on stage captivated me. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a part of the music world. I started with the guitar, but eventually, the bass guitar became my true calling. During high school, I was surrounded by friends who were deeply involved in music, whether it was through marching bands or other activities. We started forming our bands and experimenting with different sounds. Those early experiences paved the way  for what would eventually become DEF MACHINE—a culmination of years of passion, collaboration, and  musical exploration.”

Did any figure or musical artist, in particular, inspire you to write a song like “Get Hygh“?

“I’m deeply inspired by the pioneers of funk, like Parliament Funkadelic, George Clinton, and Prince. Their groundbreaking sounds laid the foundation for my musical journey. When creating a track like ‘Get  Hygh,’ I drew upon the lessons I learned from these legends, blending the timeless elements of funk with a fresh, contemporary twist. The process was all about channeling that classic funky energy while making  sure it resonates with today’s listeners.”

How has your personality been translated into “Get Hygh“?

“‘Get Hygh’ is a track that truly reflects my creative essence—it’s infused with personality and energy that takes you back to the vibe of classic house parties. It’s designed to be a feel-good anthem that people can easily dance and celebrate. But there’s more to it than just the fun; the underlying message is about elevating your spirit and getting ‘high’ off life, not drugs. That’s why we played with the spelling, giving it  a unique twist to reinforce that positive message.”

What has it been like working with Diggidy?

“Diggidy is the epitome of a complete artist and lyricist. He consistently delivers thought-provoking lyrics that elevate every track we collaborate on. Working with him is a constant challenge in the best way possible—he pushes me to up my game musically, and without fail, he crafts a powerful concept for every song. It’s an inspiring partnership that brings out the best in both of us.”

How have you seen your art evolve and change over the years?

“My art has evolved significantly over the years, and my studio space mirrors that transformation. I began recording on 1/2 inch tape, embracing the warmth and richness of analog sound, which still resonates with me today. While everything is digital now, and I appreciate the efficiency and precision it offers, I remain deeply connected to the analog feel of past recordings from legendary artists who continue to inspire me. That’s why I approach every new track with a ‘digital mind and analog heart’—blending the best of  both worlds to create something truly timeless.”

What is your favorite visual element of the “Get Hygh” music video?

“My favorite visual element from the ‘Get Hygh’ music video has to be the intro sequences, especially the drone footage of Detroit. It kicks off the video with a powerful statement, showcasing our city without needing to say a word. There’s also a standout moment where our drummer, Mario Perry, is edited in  reverse—a cool effect that adds a unique and visually striking aesthetic to the video.”

What message in “Get Hygh” do you hope impacts your audience the most?

“The message we hope resonates most with our fans in ‘Get Hygh’ is all about uplifting your spirit and finding that natural high in life—not through drugs. It’s about embracing positivity and living life to the  fullest.”

What project are you most excited about following the release of “Get Hygh“?

“After the release of the ‘Get Hygh’ single and music video, the project we’re most excited about is our upcoming album, tentatively titled ‘America: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly,’ set to drop in the first quarter of 2025. It’s a project we’re pouring a lot of creative passion into, and we can’t wait to share it with the  world.”
