Darren Waller Post-NFL Puts Everyone ‘On Notice: Bag Talk’
Atlanta rapper Darren Waller is keeping the summer heat going strong with the release of his second consecutive EP, On Notice: Bag Talk
This follows closely on the heels of last month’s well-received project, Mind Games: It’s All In Your Head.
The latest 4-track release showcases Darren’s lyrical prowess as he dives deep into a range of themes, from his relentless competitive drive (“Bag Talk”) and moments of self-reflection (“Day In The Life”) to the sources of his motivation (“On Notice”) and the strength of his faith (“Summer On Fremont”). With On Notice: Bag Talk, Waller continues to solidify his presence in the music scene, delivering content that’s both introspective and inspiring.
“As I’m focusing on putting my album together, I definitely didn’t want to let these 4 tracks go to waste. Recording outside in my backyard this spring and summer has helped me tap into the all the different characters that make up who I am as an artist, and these are some of the first few songs I made after my change in studio environment. I combined two of the song titles again and named it On Notice: Bag Talk because it’s definitely my most aggressive release to date. But like Kendrick said, ‘Sometimes you gotta..’ :),” explains Waller.
This week, Waller appeared on the Amazon Music original podcast Bars and Nuggets, where he shared his unexpected journey and inspiring transformation from the NFL to a new path in music. Waller’s latest music video “All In Your Head,” directed by ARod2Up, draws inspiration from Ray Lewis’ pregame speeches and the ‘We Believe’ Golden State Warriors campaign. Darren Waller, a former NFL star and Pro Bowl selection, is also a passionate musician. Originally from Landover, MD, and raised in Atlanta, he now resides in Las Vegas. Inspired by his great-grandfather, jazz pianist Fats Waller, Darren began his music career in 2015, the same year he joined the NFL. After a series of single releases, Darren debuted a full project in 2021 with Delusions of Clarity. Following that release, he was invited to join the Madden NFL soundtrack in 2023, distributed by Interscope Records.
In 2024, his single releases continued with “Faith Test,” “Who Knew (Her Perspective),” and “Choose Wisely (Farewell),” followed by the two-song EP Mind Games: It’s All In Your Head and his latest EP release On Notice: Bag Talk.
His music, influenced by artists like Jay-Z and Coldplay, reflects his personal journey, including his path to sobriety. His primary objective is to motivate and provide listeners with the confidence to navigate everyday life and its obstacles, drawing from his own experiences of facing and conquering many challenges. Waller’s journey to sobriety has been a significant part of his story. Through his music and the Darren Waller Foundation, he aims to inspire and support those affected by addiction.
