Conner Youngblood Shares New Single “Running through the Tøyen arboretum in the spring”

\Nashville-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Conner Youngblood shares his new single “Running through the Tøyen arboretum in the spring,” the latest release from his highly-anticipated album Cascades, Cascading, Cascadingly, out September 6 via Missing Piece Records. Inspired by a visit to a Norwegian botanical garden, the new song finds Conner stitching together several different memories over mesmerizing vocal loops, handclaps and a wistful melody.

“This song came from a place of reminiscing,” shares Youngblood. “It was initiated while visiting Oslo, Norway—sadly for a friend’s funeral—and I had some quiet moments alone to go running throughout the week in the Tøyen botanical garden and think to myself. The song is a patchwork of some fragmented thoughts I was having while on those runs. The lyrics ended up being a sort of collage of a few different memories from a few different seasons of my life. Musically speaking, I wanted it to feel a bit more upbeat than the background story and lyrics might suggest.”

“Running through the Tøyen arboretum in the spring” follows the dreamy “Reveille!” that was hailed by Under The Radar as “seamless and resonant” and the reverb-drenched “Blue Gatorade,” which FLOOD Magazine called “an equally entrancing yet more soulful and spacious recording.” Other album highlights include the eerie, horror film-inspired “All They Want Is Violence”, the shape-shifting Japanese track “スイセン” and the tender Danish song “Misundelig”.

Written and recorded in Youngblood’s Nashville bedroom, Cascades, Cascading, Cascadingly is a series of meditations steeped in desire and yearning, loneliness and loss, exhilaration and escape. On his first full-length release in six years, he blurs the lines between fact and fiction, toying with magical realism and singing in a variety of languages including Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Danish. Sonically, the arrangements on Cascades, Cascading, Cascadingly are surreal and cinematic, conjuring enthralling worlds full of chaos and wonder. In addition to producing and engineering the record, Youngblood played every instrument on the album himself, and the result is an unfiltered journey deep into the subconscious of a relentlessly curious artist, one with an insatiable appetite for musical exploration.

Hailed by Pitchfork for his “ambient, intimate…songs that blossom gently with intricate musical details and enigmatic lyrics,” Conner Youngblood broke out internationally in 2018 with his critically acclaimed debut album, Cheyenne. The Guardian compared the Dallas native to Elliott Smith and Nick Drake, dubbing him “One To Watch” for his “quietly striking” performances, which have included international dates with the likes of Janelle Monae, SOHN, KT Tunstall, and Milky Chance.
