BIGBABYGUCCI Elevates On ‘Baby 5,’ His Immersive New Album
The Prolific Charlotte Artist Shares A Carefully Curated Collection of Some of His Most Sonically Diverse Tracks to Date
Growing a cult following over his near-decade-long career, BIGBABYGUCCI is one of the most prolific and highly-respected underground artists of his generation. Ready to take his career to the next level with a newfound sense of growth and maturity, the 27-year-old artist shares Baby 5, his new album. The 22-track effort is BIGBABYGUCCI’s first project of 2024 and is the product of nearly a year’s worth of careful curation, the longest he has ever spent working on an album. Gucci described the meaning behind the album: “’Baby 5′ was inspired by life. Throughout this project you will hear my experiences on life at its highest and it’s lowest.”
Inspired by shows like Tyler the Creator’s Loiter Squad, the project finds BIGBABYGUCCI building an immersive world around his “Baby 5” persona. The album transitions from phase to phase and sound to sound, creating a sonic journey through hyper-rap, alternative hip-hop, R&B, and more. Tracks like the in-your-face “Oxy Queen” and the ruthless “Local Member” are a testament to Gucci’s facility for creating high-energy records, while elsewhere on the project, the Charlotte hero shows off a more sophisticated sound. Bringing layered samples and refined instrumentals, Gucci reveals his most vulnerable lyrics to date on tracks like “Instagram” and “Tequila,” diving into topics like heartbreak, unconditional love, and more. He continues to fine-tune his supernatural sense of melody on R&B-inspired tracks like the extraterrestrial “Chanel/Solar” and the Bryant Barnes-featuring “Phony Girl.” Home to previously released singles “Captain Crashout,” “Pink Sprite,” “You A Joke,” and “Balenciaga Store Closed,” Baby 5 is available everywhere now via OneRPM.
Along with the project, BIGBABYGUCCI shares the music video for “Captain Crashout,” one of the album’s most high energy anthems. The video brings to life Gucci’s reckless, unfazed lyrics, finding him racing through the streets of Los Angeles in a BMW and showing his haters what happens if they cross him.
Baby 5 is BIGBABYGUCCI’s first official project of 2024, following a busy 2023 in which he released four standalone albums. An extremely prolific artist, the Charlotte native has been buzzing in the underground since his debut 2016 project A F*cking Mixtape, now renamed ART HOE Collection on streaming services. At the age of 18, he established what would become 1500Forever, a collective of artists, producers, filmmakers, photographers, and designers, all whom he would eventually meet through Twitter, which fueled his creative energy into multiple new projects, including his breakout mixtape Romance Isn’t Dead. BIGBABYGUCCI eventually went on to release “Drop Top Lexus” (17.8M Spotify streams), his biggest song to date. His cult following grew even larger with hits like 2020’s “Can’t Feel Shit” (7.8M Spotify streams) and 2021’s “Seeing Ghosts” (4.3M streams).
