In the world of contemporary art, Noisetteya has emerged as a name synonymous with creativity, passion, and transformation. Hailing from Cheltenham District in England, this talented artist’s path to international recognition is as colorful and textured as her artworks. Recently, Noisetteya sat down with me, to share her fascinating journey from England’s legal industry to the world of canvas, revealing the inspirations and philosophies that drive her work. In our exclusive Live Session this past U.S. Independence Day, which I found hilariously ironic, this mellow-voiced, living embodiment of art itself took me on a journey through the maze of life that allowed her to commit fully to that which her heart and spirit demanded…art!

I’ve encapsulated our time together for easy reference but you’ll find the full video of our conversation below following the recap. If you’ve followed any of my other segments, you KNOW I don’t let people stick to their main character all the time, and thus even though only a few times, her eyes lit up with a lightening flash expressing the excitement she feels for life’s experiences and a musical giggle that seafarers of old spoke of in epic tales…the result was magical and an interview became that which journalists dream of.

A Leap of Faith

Noisetteya’s transition from law to art is nothing short of inspiring. With a background rooted in the legal profession, she experienced a pivotal moment of clarity during a job interview that related to the film “Titanic.” An image of the heart necklace from the film struck a chord, prompting her to leave behind a promising legal career and pursue her passion for art.

“I never liked the film Titanic myself, but something about that necklace resonated with me,” she recalls. “It was a turning point where I realized my true calling.”

This bold move might seem abrupt, but art was not a foreign concept to her. Growing up, Noisetteya was surrounded by creativity. Her father owned a tattoo parlor, where she often assisted, learning the intricacies of this art form. Despite her initial foray into tattooing, which she found stressful due to its permanent nature and the pressure involved, it laid the foundation for her artistic endeavors.

Artistic Philosophy and Style

Noisetteya’s art is characterized by a deep desire to make art accessible and exciting for everyone. She believes in the power of storytelling through visual media, creating pieces that invite viewers to engage and interpret narratives.

“Art, for me, is about understanding life and making it accessible,” she explains. “I like to tell stories with my art and interact with people who view it.”

Her journey through art education was marked by challenges and revelations. Starting with art and textiles in secondary school, she eventually specialized in illustrations during her college years. These experiences, combined with her father’s influence, shaped her unique approach to art, blending traditional techniques with contemporary themes.

Navigating Challenges

Working alongside her father as a tattoo artist was a significant learning experience. The discipline required and the permanent nature of the work taught her the importance of precision and responsibility. However, it also made her realize her true preferences.

“Tattooing was very difficult for me,” she admits. “There’s a human body involved, and it’s a permanent fixture. The pressure was immense.” Her description of the inking process and how it made her feel was intense.

This realization led her to focus on other forms of art, where she could explore her creativity without the same constraints. Despite the challenges, these experiences contributed to her growth as an artist, providing valuable lessons that she continues to apply in her work today.

Transition to Full-Time Art

The decision to pursue art full-time came during a job interview at a law firm. Staring at an image of the heart necklace from Titanic, she felt a profound inspiration and decided to follow her passion wholeheartedly. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life, one where she could fully embrace her artistic talents.

“I teach my daughter art now,”

Noisetteya shares. “It’s wonderful to share this passion with her and see the world through her eyes.”

Inspirations and Notable Works

Noisetteya’s works are often inspired by real-life experiences and profound reflections. Her notable pieces include “Just Believe,” “Mammal Brain,” and “Reptilian Brain,” each carrying a unique story and message.

Just Believe (Angel Painting) - Noisetteya

“Just Believe”: This piece was inspired by a moment in an art gallery, reflecting on themes of faith and humanity. Listening to Kanye West’s “Praise God,” Noisetteya envisioned an angel holding out her hand, a symbol of belief and hope.

“I wanted the viewer to feel like the angel was holding her hand out to them,” she explains.

Mammal Brain - Noisetteya

“Mammal Brain”: Inspired by a book on human behavior, this artwork delves into the emotional decisions we make, driven by the mammal part of our brain. It’s a reflection on how emotions influence our actions and the complexities of human behavior.

Reptilian Brain - Young Girl and Snake - Noisetteya

“Reptilian Brain”: This piece explores primal survival instincts and features her daughter with a snake, symbolizing innocence and evolution. It highlights the instinctual aspects of human nature and the journey of growth.

Artistic Process and Techniques

Noisetteya’s artistic process is both meticulous and inspired. Recently, she transitioned from using acrylics to oil paints, appreciating the vibrant colors and depth they offer despite the longer drying time and stronger fumes.

“I work on multiple pieces simultaneously,” she says. “It allows me to let layers dry while continuing to create.”

Her dedication to her craft is evident in her ability to juggle several projects at once and maintain each with its unique narrative and emotional depth. Meanwhile, I’m still learning to walk and chew gum at the same time!

In the video below, one of the questions Noisetteya answers for me is “When do you know that just one more brush stroke will ruin a piece?” Her response was quite insightful and indicative of just how connected she is to each creation.

Current and Future Projects

One of her current major projects is “Pumaids in Venice,” a large piece combining elements of Venice and mythical creatures, reflecting her personal and artistic growth. This work is a testament to her ability to transform past experiences into powerful, visual stories. This is the unfinished piece highlighted throughout our video conversation which we get into…there’s something of a Michelangelo Sistine Chapel spirit in that one for me.

“I wanted to capture Venice’s beauty and my journey through a turbulent time,” she explains.

Looking Ahead

As Noisetteya continues to create and inspire, she has several upcoming projects and potential exhibitions on the horizon. She is eager to connect with her audience and share her art in person, offering a more immersive experience than digital platforms allow.

“I’m excited about future opportunities to showcase my work and meet people who appreciate it,” she says.

Editor’s Take

Noisetteya’s journey from law to art is a testament to the power of following one’s passion. Her story is one of courage, creativity, and transformation. Through her art, she continues to explore life’s complexities, making profound connections with those who encounter her work. As she prepares for new exhibitions and projects, the art world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in her inspiring journey.
