Three of the best UFC Fight Cards in 2024 so far

UFC 303 is just around the corner, and while Conor McGregor will no longer be fighting Michael Chandler due to the Irishman suffering an injury, the card is still stacked with talent. Alex Pereira has stepped in to fight Jiří Procházka for the second time in the main event, with Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena still expected to see an exciting bout as the Brazilian look to bounce back from some disappointing results as of late.

Elsewhere, UFC veteran Brian Ortega takes on Diego Lopes in the Featherweight division, while Anthony Smith returns to the Octagon to take on Roman Dolidze. It’s an interesting undercard with unpredictability, making the UFC odds so hard to call.

The last six months have seen so much action across the UFC’s main cards and fight nights. Ahead of UFC 303, we take a look at some of the best cards so far this year and assess some of their most significant bouts.

UFC 297 – Strickland vs. Du Plessis

Cage fighting fans witnessed five rounds of exciting and bloody action in the main event of UFC 297. The title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis was a great display of striking, grappling, and both fighters’ willpower inside the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Strickland was fresh off the back of a dominant performance against Israel Adesanya, scoring a unanimous decision to take the UFC Middleweight Championship. However, Du Plessis was awarded the split decision victory in a fight that went to distance and demonstrated the best of UFC’s different divisions.

On the undercard, Raquel Pennington beat Mayra Bueno Silva, and Neil Magny knocked out Mike Mallot with 15 seconds left of their Welterweight bout.

UFC Fight Night – Hermansson vs. Pyfer

An onslaught of punches defined UFC’s Vegas Fight Night when Gregory Rodrigues destroyed Brad Tavares in the third round of their clash, which was main evented by Jack Hermansson vs. Joe Pyfer.

The two middleweights went to distance but ultimately the most-anticipated fight flattered to deceive once the Rodrigues bout had finished. Dan Ige also showcased his knockout power in a dominant display against Andre Fill. A featherweight demonstrating that punching power was all the more impressive, and fans left Nevada overjoyed with a solid card of entertainment.

UFC 300 – Pereira vs Hill

The card of the year for many MMA fans, Pereira vs Jamal Hill had all the shock value needed to get fans off their seats. Nobody expected Hill to score a quick knockout, with the 33-year-old extending his fight record to 12-2.

Elsewhere, Justin Gaethje was once again involved in an all-action affair when he was beaten by the impressive Max Holloway. With just seconds left of the fight and the result ultimately going against ‘The Highlight’, both men let their guards down and swung for the fences, with Holloway catching Gaethje in the dying seconds for a famous knockout.

“Metaphorically, I could be ready tomorrow, but physically, I do want to take care of myself,” Gaethje said. “I do think that repeated concussions, with me going to sleep like that, me receiving that shot… It would be foolish for me to jump back into training any time before 180 days.

“I think [it will be] six months, at least, before I get back to taking shots. But that doesn’t say that I won’t be training the whole time.”
