The Best Musical Moments From High School Musical: The Musical

Inspired by the highly successful High School Musical, High School Musical: The Musical has been an instant hit for creator Tim Federle. Let’s not forget that it also spawned the mega-successful career of pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo. The series follows East High School students who love theater and work to create a musical based on the movie High School Musical. During the four seasons, viewers learn about their personal lives as they try to have a normal school life.

Tim Federle can now sit back and enjoy the success of the hit Disney series. Now, let’s look at some of the top musical moments.

What Are the Top Musical Moments?

There have been too many musical numbers to count, but we’re looking at just a few of our favorite numbers.

Wondering

As early as season one, fans saw Olivia Rodrigo’s immense talent. This beautiful ballad was written and composed by Ashlyn (Julia Lester), but it got even better when Nini (Rodrigo) performed it with her. Some consider it one of the best duets in the series… and we agree! Both ladies have incredible voices that shine during this song.

Breaking Free

After Ricky (Joshua Bassett) gets to return as Troy in the musical, he and Nini (playing Gabriella) perform their final duel in the musical: Breaking Free.

Let You Go

You know you have something special when a song has a significant reaction from viewers. Ricky’s break-up song Let You Go expresses just how he’ll always have feelings for Nini. We’ve all experienced breakups, so seeing this touching song becoming a favorite among fans is no surprise.

All I Want

There can’t be a top musical numbers list without mentioning All I Want. Easily one of Nini’s best performances, the song was written by Rodrigo as her character is torn between EJ and Ricky, and all that comes with being a typical teenager in high school.

In a Heartbeat

Carlos and Seb were an adorable couple that everyone loved throughout the series. So, of course, we have to include the sweet song In a Heartbeat, that Carlos sings to Seb as he shows how much he cares about his boyfriend. It’s also groundbreaking, marking the network’s first LGBTQ+ love song!
