Facing Your Fears: Dual Diagnosis Releases Powerful New EP “Nature of the Beast”

The beast within us all is a powerful force – one that can either consume us or be harnessed for growth and transformation. Today, we’re excited to announce the release of Dual Diagnosis‘ new EP “Nature of the Beast,” which explores this duality through gritty, honest hip-hop.

This is the second EP from Dual Diagnosis member Mad Mike, and it’s a sonic journey inward, confronting the darkest parts of the human psyche. As someone who has struggled with mental health challenges, Mad Mike pours his heart and soul into these six tracks, offering a raw, unfiltered look at the highs and lows of the human experience.

The EP kicks off with the aptly titled “Intro,” setting the stage for the emotional rollercoaster to come. From there, the title track “Nature of the Beast” takes the listener on a confrontation with their own inner demons. The song “talks” to a higher power, delving into the subconscious fears and limitations that so often hold us back. But as Mad Mike explains, “We have the inner power to release these thoughts and feelings through intentional actions. Fears are presented as real threats or they are presented as stories we create in our ego. Most of the time, fears are created in the mind, which create limitations and inhibitions.”

Nature of the Beast” is a powerful anthem about breaking free from these self-imposed constraints and embracing the fierce, untamed aspects of our psyche. The track has already garnered thousands of views on the music video, which was released on May 17th, 2024. Directed by Mad Mike himself, the visuals perfectly capture the raw intensity of the song, with powerful imagery and visceral performances.

Another standout on the EP is “Patient on the Run,” which was released as a single on May 23rd, 2024. This track delves into the turmoil of mental illness, with Mad Mike‘s flow conveying a sense of desperation and restlessness. “The song is ‘talking’ to a doctor, a higher power, or myself about setting myself free from my own trials and tribulations,” he explains. “Demons that reside in the subconscious can hold power over our thoughts and feelings. However, we have the inner power to release these thoughts and feelings through intentional actions.”

The remaining tracks on “Nature of the Beast” – “Harsh,” “Murder One,” and “The Edge” – continue to explore these themes of self-awareness, trauma, and the search for healing. Produced by both Mad Mike and The Arcitype, the EP offers a sonic tapestry that seamlessly blends hardcore hip-hop with elements of rock and industrial, creating a truly unique and immersive listening experience.

“This EP honors the still sick and suffering,” says Mad Mike. “The performed lyrics are intensified through healing messages, which offer an ambitious remedy to listeners.”

It’s clear that Mad Mike has poured his heart and soul into this project, and the emotional resonance is palpable. Listeners can expect to feel a range of emotions, from the raw power and aggression of “Nature of the Beast” to the introspective vulnerability of “Patient on the Run.” But at the core of it all is a message of hope and resilience, a testament to the human spirit’s ability to confront and overcome even the darkest of challenges.

Dual Diagnosis‘ journey began over two decades ago, when brothers Mad Mike and Paulie Walnutz first started making music together in the early 2000s. Influenced by the rap and rock invasion of their generation, the duo established a presence in the underground music scene, collaborating with artists like Slaine, Gorilla Voltage, and UnderRated.

As brothers growing up in the 90s, we were influenced by the rap and rock invasion of our generation, which became the driving force in establishing a presence in the underground music world,” explains Mad Mike. “Inspired by independent artists, such as, ICP, E-Town Concrete, Hed-PE, and DMX, we also express lyrics with relatable and long-lasting messages.”

Now, with the release of “Nature of the Beast,” Dual Diagnosis is poised to reach an even wider audience, sharing their powerful message of self-acceptance and resilience. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering their music for the first time, this EP is a must-listen for anyone who’s ever struggled with the demons within.

So, turn up the volume, embrace your inner beast, and let Dual Diagnosis guide you on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. “Nature of the Beast” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
