Who Is NF? #OfficialHype

I didn’t know who NF was either until some very sharp PR person whom we respect, shot over the kit on this cat and his debut album “Mansion.”

What made him so interesting right off the bat? #9 Billboard Rap Album debut; over 25 million streams of his audio and video AND over 100,000 albums sold between his LP and EP projects. Need more stats? Ok, he’s got 20 approved synchs (television, music, commercial and video game placements) including ESPN, Fox, Monday Night Football, VH1, NBC, Showtime…I could keep going but why?

NF, Nate Feuerstein to family and friends, is one of the newest signees to Capitol CMG Label Group and man does he have something to say. His single “Wake Up”, hit the spot for many music supervisors and television music directors, gaining placements on ESPN’s Monday Night Football; NBC’s Chicago PD, VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta and Black Ink Crew. Another single “Intro” featured in the last season finale of Fox’s Empire, EA’s Madden Football Game and soundtrack.

Mansion” is a tightly knit story that according to his official line, that gives us some insight into some of his real life struggles…most importantly, losing his mother to a drug overdose. Well, he turned the pain, past anger issues and abuse as a child into some major music pieces…Definitely worth dropping the bread for the album in my humble opinion.

We caught up with NF to get a better look inside the person…here’s the end result…enjoy!

From the outside looking in, who is NF?

I’m an artist that uses music as a way to express myself and release a lot of the struggles I deal with inside. To me music is a lot more than just words and instruments, it’s what helps me cope and deal with things.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I fell in love with music at a young age and as I got older my passion just grew more and more for it. I went through a lot of ups and downs to get here, but honestly my pain and problems brought me here along with a passion for doing music.

At first I just loved being a listener and feeling the music, but as time went on, I wanted more. I quickly went from being a listener to using music as my way to express how I felt. I think what really got me interested was how music was able to take me away from the world for a few minutes and put me in a headspace that allowed me to vent and get out things I buried inside.

What do you want people to get from your music?

To me music is a lot more powerful than a lot of people realize. I like to make music that makes not only other people think, but challenges me as a person. I just write what I feel and let the emotions come out as I feel them, and I would hope it helps others express themselves as well.

Honestly, I just stay true to who I am as a person and an artist. I’ve always been the type of artist that just lets whatever emotion I’m feeling to come out. A soon as I hear an instrumental, my mind just fills with ideas. It’s crazy and I’m thankful to be able to do what I do.

Tell us about your current project.

Mansion was my first full length album, which I released this year. It’s a very deep and personal album about what I’m going though in life right now.

What has been your greatest professional achievement so far?

Over the past year so many things have happened that I used to dream would happen as a kid, but now I don’t focus on it as much. A couple cool things that have happened though are the amount of placements on film/TV that we’ve gotten with my music. It’s cool as an artist to hear your song being used for sports and video games.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you?

My song “Intro” would definitely be the song I would show a first listener. It really gives people a raw and clear version of where I’m at right now.
