Who Is: ApolloNightLA ‘Artist of the Week’ Sliz

Last week’s ApolloNightLA “Artist of the Week” winner, Sliz got caught in the BET shuffle and thus this late posting. Sliz, is a Philly representer who’s versatility allows him to successfully cross genres…Music without borders, yup!

Sliz appears here not only because of his single, but as a celebration of his work ethic. ApolloNightLA prides itself in giving unsigned artists a legitimate platform to showcase from via their weekly live radio broadcast.

As you see yourself, from the outside looking in, who is the artist Sliz?

From the outside looking in Sliz is the ultimate artist. Sliz is a versatile lyricist with a distinct an impressive flow. Sliz is an author and screenwriter that practices diversity like a religion. Sliz is a pure Genious.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I wasn’t bought to the industry I was literally called. This is more than a dream it’s a God given talent. The need for it borders on affliction. The music is my drug, my therapy and my refuge. On a more relatable level Im inspired by a diverse array of artists. I started out on Jay Z his witty insightful and introspective lyricism was a huge influence on me early. As the game has progressed two of my favorites of this era would be Drake and J Cole.

Tell us about your current project and your ApolloNightLA Artist of the Week winning song “Wrong.”

My current project is called “BrainStorm”. It will easily be my most diverse project to date. I’ve covered a lot of ground musically I’m even giving you a full out rock song on this one. I don’t want to give away too much but it will do its part  in expanding the palate of the current consumer. My aim is to not only compete but to raise the bar. Be on the lookout.

My single “Wrong” is just a catchy lead single poking fun at some of my escapades with beautiful women and the trust issues I’ve developed because of it. It’s a bit more explicit than I usually go but I decided to mildly conform for the single to this project. Considering the current climate of music it made sense and its an undeniable smash. Works in the club and radio as well. Very simple and to the point. Women have been my triumph and my downfall all at the same time so “Wrong” is my tribute to the more playful side of that journey.

If you had to pick one of your songs as the best introduction to a first time listener, what would it be?

While my single makes the most sense as a lead to the project, for a fan that’s never heard me before I believe my follow up “Watchin” would be the best song to properly introduce myself. I know that’s a contradiction but I think every artist is in a constant state of contradictory behavior. We tell our truth but we still inevitably make decisions based on what makes sense in any given moment it’s business. That being said, “Watchin” is a bit somber for a lead single but it’s definitely a more accurate representation of the essence of Sliz.

Last but not least, The Hype Magazine wants to know, “What’s your craziest “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My where they do that moment is from a few years back in Atlanta. We were at a drive thru and everything was good. It was late night and we were a little wasted and wanted some munchies. So we pull up finally to the window and this kid is shaking back and forth like he’s on something. So my driver is like “Dude you good man?” You know what this kid says? “Nah yo I got the runs and I REALLY gotta go. You mind waiting bro I’m about to go on myself and no ones here right now but me.” On everything I love before we could answer this kid left the drive thru window to take a DUMP! Even crazier we were so gone we actually pulled over and waited. Nothin else was open and we were starving. 15 minutes later dude comes out shaking his hands I guess from washing them. We ain’t even curse him out we were dying laughing. Took our food and left. Where they do that at tho? Editorial Note: This one gets another award for best “Where they do that at moment” thus far in 2015!

Hype this was fun I sincerely thank you guys for the platform and look forward to reading the feature when it drops. Special shout out to Apollo Night LA for the look. I’m outta here!
